A smart ring can track your sleep, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV) and temperature trends without a watch on your wrist at night. The catch with some rings is the monthly membership needed to see most of that data. This guide compares the main smart rings that work without a subscription, what you actually get for free, what you give up, and which one fits which person.
Our picks: no monthly fee
- Best overall RingConn Gen 3 — the longest battery here (up to 14 days per manufacturer) and full data with no membership. Check price
- Best budget RingConn Gen 2 Air — thin and light, core sleep and recovery tracking, up to 10 days of battery. Check price
- For Samsung phone owners Samsung Galaxy Ring — integrates with Samsung Health; Android only. Check price
- Coaching-style app Ultrahuman Ring Pro — no mandatory subscription, charging case included in the bundle. See on Ultrahuman
Picks are based on manufacturer specifications, published research and verified-buyer feedback, not hands-on testing; see our rating methodology. What “No Subscription” Really Means
“No subscription” is not always the same promise. It helps to sort rings into three groups:
| Model | What it means | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Everything included | All tracking, scores and history are available after you buy the ring. | RingConn Gen 3, RingConn Gen 2 Air |
| Free core, paid extras | Core sleep and recovery data are free; some advanced features or add-ons cost extra. | Ultrahuman Ring Pro (optional paid add-ons) |
| Free, but tied to an ecosystem | No fee, but the full experience depends on a specific phone brand. | Samsung Galaxy Ring (Android only, best with Samsung phones) |
| Membership required | Without the membership the ring shows only basic data. | Oura Ring 5 |
Subscription terms can change after you buy, so check the current terms on the manufacturer’s site before you decide.
What a Subscription Costs Over Three Years
A ring is usually worn for several years, so compare the ring price plus any recurring fee. Oura, the best-known subscription ring, charges a membership of $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year for full insights.
| Ring | Fee for full data | Added cost over 3 years |
|---|---|---|
| Oura Ring 5 | $5.99/month or $69.99/year | About $210–$216 on top of the ring |
| RingConn Gen 3 | None | $0 |
| RingConn Gen 2 Air | None | $0 |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | None at the time of writing | $0 |
| Ultrahuman Ring Pro | None for core data; optional add-ons | $0 unless you buy add-ons |
Ring prices change often and vary by finish and size, so check the current price before you compare. The membership difference is the part that keeps adding up.

The Picks in Detail
How we picked: we included rings that are currently sold in the US, offer sleep, heart rate and HRV tracking without a mandatory fee, and have a meaningful volume of verified-buyer feedback or independent reviews. We compared manufacturer specifications, published validation research where it exists, and recurring themes in buyer feedback. We have not tested these rings hands-on.

Best overall · no fee
RingConn Gen 3
The full feature set with no membership and the fewest charging gaps in your sleep data.
- Up to 14 days per charge (10–12 with vibration alerts on), charging case included
- HRV, SpO₂, skin temperature and sleep-apnea risk indicators
- Gen 3 sizing differs from earlier models; limited independent validation so far

Best budget
RingConn Gen 2 Air
A lower-cost, slimmer way into ring-based sleep tracking, still with no subscription.
- Up to 10 days per charge
- Core sleep, heart rate, HRV and SpO₂ tracking
- No vibration alerts (a Gen 3 feature)

Ultrahuman Ring Pro
For people who like an app that nudges and coaches, with a charging case so battery is rarely a thought.

- Some extras are paid add-ons

US Availability: The Oura Patent Dispute
In 2025 the US International Trade Commission ruled that rings from Ultrahuman and RingConn infringed an Oura patent, and an import ban took effect in October 2025. RingConn signed a licence agreement with Oura and continues to sell in the US. Ultrahuman’s earlier Ring AIR remains excluded, but its redesigned Ring Pro was cleared by US Customs in March 2026 and is on sale in the US. Samsung is also involved in patent litigation with Oura, which had not affected sales at the time of writing.
If you see a Ring AIR offered by a US seller, check that support and warranty apply in your country before buying.
How to Choose
- Start with your phone. iPhone users can rule out the Galaxy Ring straight away.
- Battery affects data quality. Every night the ring sits on the charger is a gap in your trends. Longer battery means fewer gaps.
- Size first. Fit affects both comfort and sensor readings; use the brand’s sizing kit and wear it for a full day and night before ordering.
- Check the integrations you need, such as Apple Health, Google Health Connect or a training app.
- Look at return windows and warranty, especially for a product you wear 24 hours a day.
What Any Smart Ring Cannot Tell You
Consumer rings are good at showing trends in resting heart rate, HRV and sleep timing against your own baseline. Sleep-stage estimates are less reliable, and sleep-apnea or blood-vessel indicators are screening-style trends, not diagnoses. If you are worried about your sleep or heart, take the data to a clinician rather than relying on the score. Our smart rings for sleep and recovery guide covers accuracy and the published research in more detail.
Smart Rings Without a Subscription: FAQ
Which smart ring has no monthly fee?
RingConn Gen 3, RingConn Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air, Samsung Galaxy Ring and Ultrahuman Ring Pro all work without a mandatory subscription. Oura requires a membership for full insights.
Does Oura work without a subscription?
Only partly. Without a membership, the Oura app shows little more than your daily Sleep, Readiness and Activity scores; the detailed data, trends and most features behind them require the paid membership.
Is a no-subscription ring less accurate?
Not necessarily. Accuracy depends on the sensors, algorithms and fit, not on the business model. Oura does have more published independent research than its rivals, which is different from being proven more accurate for every metric.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Ring work with an iPhone?
No. The Galaxy Ring requires an Android phone, and some features need a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Can I buy an Ultrahuman ring in the US?
Yes, the Ring Pro is on sale in the US after US Customs cleared its redesign in March 2026. The earlier Ring AIR is still covered by the 2025 import ban.
